Frequently Asked Questions

What is Second Life?

Second Life (SL) is an online, 3D virtual world where users, called Residents, create customizable avatars and live a virtual life. Unlike a traditional video game, SL has no set goals or objectives; it is a platform for free-form creativity, socializing, commerce, and exploring a vast, user-generated environment known as “the grid.” Its economy is driven by the Linden Dollar (L$), which can be exchanged for real currency.

What is a Second Life Weekend Sale?

A Weekend Sale refers to one of the many weekly, recurring shopping events in Second Life where designers offer their products at heavily discounted, fixed low prices (often L$35-L$99). These events typically run from Friday through Sunday (SLT). They are a massive part of the Second Life shopping culture, allowing Residents to easily and affordably update their virtual wardrobes and homes with high-quality items.

Why did you start this website?

We are huge fans of the alt, gothic, and emo aesthetics in Second Life and recognized a need to help fellow community members find the best deals. We are also dedicated Weekend Sale shoppers and we know how addicting and fun it is. Let’s enjoy the weekend!

How do I find the sale items?

All sales are hosted by the designers themselves. We provide the landmarks (teleport links) in our weekly gallery posts. Once you click the link, your avatar will be instantly teleported to the store location.

What if an item doesn't fit my avatar?

Always look for and try the DEMO version of any mesh product (clothing, hair, etc.) before you buy, especially at a sale price. Demos are generally free or L$1 (with a refund). Since sales of virtual goods are final, trying the demo is the only way to confirm the item fits your specific mesh body (like Maitreya, Legacy, or Reborn) and prevents buyer’s remorse.

We review applications for brands that fit the gothic, punk, emo, or general dark aesthetic. To apply, you need to first demonstrate a consistent body of work and a strong brand presence in Second Life. You should have a public portfolio, such as a Flickr page, Primfeed, In-world or Marketplace store, showcasing your unique style and commitment to quality mesh creation.

What quality or style standards must my item meet?

Since we focus solely on the alternative community, all submitted items must align with the dark aesthetic, including styles like goth, grunge, emo, and industrial. The item must be a quality, original creation, and it must be sold for the specified low price (66L$ , 77L$, or 88L$) for the duration of the sale, from Friday at 12 PM SLT to Sunday at 12 PM SLT. We prioritize items that are either new to the sale or a popular classic being offered at a special discount.

What advantages do designers gain by participating?

Participating in our event offers significant exposure to a highly targeted audience interested only in alternative fashion and decor. We focus on being fairly priced with minimal event fees and strive to build a strong community.
